Hina Mahmood
Hina Mahmood is the Executive Director of the Illinois Accountability Commission. She is a seasoned social justice leader with nearly two decades of experience across government, philanthropy, and the nonprofit sector, advocating for racial and economic justice.
Before joining the Commission, Hina served as Director of Illinois Initiatives at the J.B. & M.K. Pritzker Family Foundation, where she led strategic efforts to advance justice and equity in early childhood, community health, and civil and human rights across Illinois.
Previously, as Managing Director of the Catalyze Fund at Pillars Fund, Hina shaped the strategic direction and implementation of the organization’s signature grantmaking program, amplifying the leadership, narratives, and talents of Muslims in the United States to advance opportunity and justice for all.
As Deputy Chief of Staff at the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS), Hina led efforts to ensure equitable access to social and human services. Her leadership guided major statewide initiatives, including the 2020 Census effort and the Governor’s Children’s Behavioral Health Transformation Initiative. She also coordinated crisis response efforts for refugees and asylum seekers, helped design and launch the Illinois Contact Tracing Collaborative during the COVID-19 pandemic, and spearheaded initiatives to stabilize and strengthen the IDHS workforce amid unprecedented challenges.
Hina also served as Interim President of Woods Fund Chicago, where she advanced social, economic, and racial justice through community organizing, coalition building, and public policy advocacy.
Hina holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Loyola University Chicago.
